This policy explains what information FontCompass (fontcompass.com, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit the site and how it is used. FontCompass has no user accounts, no newsletter and nothing for sale, so we collect very little.
1. Information you give us
- Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to reply and, where relevant, to correct an article. We do not add you to any mailing list.
- Comments. If you leave a comment on an article, WordPress stores the name, email address and optional website you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address and browser details. Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments may be checked by spam-filtering tools.
2. Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider records technical data for each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. This is used for security and troubleshooting.
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which articles are read and how visitors find them. It uses cookies and collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Google Search Console. Google gives us aggregated reports about which searches lead to the site. These do not identify individual visitors.
3. Affiliate links
When you click a MyFonts link, CJ Affiliate and MyFonts may set cookies on their own websites to record that the visit came from FontCompass, so that a commission can be credited if you buy something. We receive commission reports, such as the order amount and which of our pages the click came from, but not your name, email address or payment details. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
4. Cookies
Cookies used on or through this site:
- Google Analytics cookies (names starting with
_ga), to measure visits. - WordPress comment cookies, only if you comment and choose to save your details for next time.
- Affiliate cookies set by CJ Affiliate and MyFonts on their own domains after you click a MyFonts link.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them.
5. How we use information
We use the information above to run and secure the site, understand which articles are useful, reply to messages, publish comments and receive affiliate commissions. We do not sell your personal information.
6. Third-party websites
Download and purchase links take you to other websites, such as designers’ own sites, DaFont and MyFonts. Their privacy policies apply once you are there, and we are not responsible for how they handle your data.
7. How long we keep it
Emails are kept for as long as we need them to handle your request and keep track of corrections. Published comments are kept while the article is online, or until you ask us to remove them. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Analytics account.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California law), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, object to its use, or withdraw consent. To make a request, email info@fontcompass.com. We will respond within the time the law requires.
9. Children
FontCompass is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, for example by adding a new analytics or advertising service, we will update this page and the date at the top.
