FontCompass helps you buy the right font — not just find one. Most “best fonts” lists online are thin, unverified, and written to rank rather than to help. We built FontCompass around a narrower, more useful job: telling you what a font actually is, whether it’s genuinely worth paying for, and where you can actually buy it today.
What We Cover
FontCompass is organized around three questions font buyers actually ask:
- Font Identification — “What font is that?” We research the real typeface (or hand-lettering) behind well-known brand logos and tell you honestly when no licensable font exists, instead of guessing.
- Premium Font Roundups — “Which paid font should I buy for this project?” We compare real, currently-for-sale fonts by use case, license type, and price — not just Google Fonts repackaged as a “list.”
- Font Deals & Releases — how font licensing actually works, how to buy smart, and which new releases are genuinely worth watching.
How We Verify Facts
Font identification is full of confident-sounding claims that turn out to be folklore. Before we publish, we hold ourselves to a few rules:
- We prioritize credible primary sources (designer interviews, foundry statements, established design and news publications) over fan sites or unsourced “font identifier” aggregators.
- When sources conflict or no verifiable font exists — for example, a logo that turns out to be custom lettering, not a licensable typeface — we say so plainly instead of guessing at a font name.
- Before recommending any paid font, we check that it is actually still for sale from the marketplace we link to. If a font has been discontinued, we say so and point to the closest genuine alternative rather than linking to a dead listing.
How We Make Money
FontCompass is supported by affiliate commissions from MyFonts and FontSpring when you buy a font through our links, at no extra cost to you. This doesn’t change what we recommend — our comparisons are based on licensing, foundry reputation, and fit for the use case, not on which link pays more. Full details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
About Brand Logos Shown on This Site
Some articles reference or show the logos of well-known brands to discuss the typography used in them. These are used strictly for editorial and identification purposes — FontCompass is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any brand mentioned. See our Terms of Service for details.
