Hemi Head Font Free Download: 2 Official Styles + License

Two Hemi Head styles, Bold and Bold Italic, are free to download from official sources and free to use in commercial artwork: shirts, decals, packaging, posters and video. The Bold Italic is the direct descendant of the original 1998 font, which was modeled on Dodge’s lettering. The free license is a desktop license for one person, so websites, apps and editable templates need a paid license. The other 16 styles are $69.95 each, or $169.95 for the complete family on MyFonts (checked 17 October 2026).

Where to download Hemi Head for free (official)

Hemi Head is made by Typodermic Fonts. The DaFont ZIP (the button above) has both free styles; Typodermic’s license names DaFont as an authorized source. They are also in Typodermic’s 11.5 MB free desktop package at typodermicfonts.com/downloads.

What the free license allows

The ZIP includes the Typodermic Desktop EULA, version v260817, effective August 17, 2026. It is a desktop license for one person: you can use the font for commercial finished artwork, but not inside anything that lets someone else type with it.

Use Free styles
Logos, print, packaging, merchandise, images, video Allowed, commercial included
Live website text, webfonts, apps, games Not allowed
Editable templates you give or sell, print-on-demand systems Not allowed
Cutting-machine or embroidery alphabets Not allowed

A naming note: Hemi is a Chrysler trademark for its engines, and the Dodge logo is Stellantis branding. The font license covers the typeface, not those marks.

The license is the same for every free Typodermic font, so we explain it in full, section by section, in our guide to the Typodermic free font license.

Where Hemi Head comes from

Raymond Larabie launched Hemi Head on March 16, 1998, out of his interest in 1960s and 1970s American muscle cars. The first version was a single italic called Hemi Head 426, after the Chrysler Hemi engine, drawn from the squarish lettering Dodge used between 1964 and 1993. It was released free for commercial desktop use, and it spread far beyond car enthusiasts into product packaging.

In February 2011 he expanded it into a full family with upright companions, keeping the Bold Italic, a close match for the original 426, free. On February 6, 2026, the family was rebuilt almost from scratch around three masters (Hairline, a new Regular and Heavy), which lets the distortions of the heavy weights relax toward an even Regular. MyFonts now lists 18 styles: nine weights with italics.

The family pays off from the third paid style ($169.95 against 3 × $69.95).

Free alternatives, compared

Branding set in Hemi Head Bold, Russo One and Black Ops One, with bars showing Russo One 1 percent wider and Black Ops One 9 percent wider
Same size, same word. Russo One is almost the same width.
  • Russo One (Google Fonts, SIL Open Font License) is within 1% of Hemi Head Bold’s width and has the same squared, heavy build. It has no italic, though, and the italic is what most people want from Hemi Head.
  • Black Ops One is 9% wider and stenciled, closer to a military look than a muscle car one.
  • For an italic muscle car feel at zero cost, the free Hemi Head Bold Italic is still the most direct option for artwork.

Quick answers

Is Hemi Head the Dodge font? It is inspired by Dodge’s 1964 to 1993 lettering, but it is an independent typeface, not an official Dodge font.

Is Hemi Head free for commercial use? Bold and Bold Italic are, for finished artwork. Websites, apps and templates need a paid license.

I have an old “Hemi Head 426” file. Is it the same? It is the 1998 original. The current free Bold Italic is its rebuilt successor, version 2.000.
