Museo Sans 500 and Museo Sans 500 Italic are free, and not just for desktop use: MyFonts lists both at $0 for every license type, including webfonts and apps. How to get Museo Sans for free (official)

Museo Sans is made by Jos Buivenga’s exljbris foundry, which sells through Fontspring, MyFonts and FontShop rather than hosting files itself. On MyFonts, choose Museo Sans 500 and Museo Sans 500 Italic, select the license type you need (each is $0), and check out with a free account. MyFonts also lists “Std” versions of both, also at $0.

The free file we measured (version 1.000) maps 379 characters (456 glyphs in total), Latin only. Vietnamese is not supported. Museo Sans is spaced and kerned with Igino Marini’s iKern system, and its OpenType features include ligatures, fractions, lining and oldstyle figures and case-sensitive forms.

What the free license allows

exljbris no longer offers Museo Sans as a direct download from its own site, so the free weights now come through MyFonts or Fontspring, the reseller exljbris names as preferred. On MyFonts, the free weights are listed at $0 for every license type: Desktop, Webfonts (we checked up to 100,000 pageviews a month), App, Electronic Doc and Server, all checked on 17 October 2026. Pick the license type that matches your use at checkout; the license you check out with is the one that applies.

Because the free pair includes an italic, Museo Sans 500 works for simple body text on a website: roman for paragraphs, italic for emphasis, both at $0.

The exljbris license terms that come with these free weights, including the credit rule for self-hosted web fonts, are explained in our Museo free download guide.

Where Museo Sans comes from

Museo Sans is the sans serif member of the Museo family. exljbris describes it as “a sturdy, low contrast, geometric, highly legible sans serif typeface very well suited for any display and text use”. It shares Museo’s friendly proportions without the half-slab serifs, and like Museo it was named one of MyFonts’ Top 10 fonts of 2008.

What the paid styles cost

The family has 10 styles: weights 100, 300, 500, 700 and 900, each with an italic. MyFonts prices in USD, checked 17 October 2026, for a paid style and the complete family:

License One style Complete family (10 styles)
Desktop, 1 user $16.50 $89
Desktop, 5 users $59.40 $320.40
Company Desktop, up to 20 employees $30.94 $166.88
Webfonts, 10,000 pageviews/month $16.50 $89
Webfonts, 100,000 pageviews/month $63.94 $344.88
Electronic Doc (e-book, PDF), 1 title $33 $178
Digital Ad / Email, 1,000,000 impressions $16.50 $89
App, 1 title $247.50 $1,335
Server, 1 CPU core $165 $890

Other packages: the Regular Set and the Medium Set are $49 each. With single styles at $16.50, the complete family is cheaper once you need six or more paid styles.
